VISSERSHOK LEACHATE TREATMENT WORKS

Client: Cape Town City Council, South Africa
Location: Vissershok
Operational from: Summer 2002 to date

This 130 m³ /day plant was process designed by Enviros, and detail designed and constructed by local consultant Arcus Gibb. Enviros provided the expertise which enabled the City Council to carry out extensive leachate treatability trials prior to the design work. The trials established treatment criteria for the leachate generated by the site which includes the leachate from hazardous waste cells.

The plant discharges treated effluent into the tank visible to the left of the picture, and it is then used for site irrigation and dust suppression.
The plant was process commissioned by Enviros, and the site staff were also trained by Enviros. The plant has been operated by the site operational staff, assisted by the council’s laboratory chemist, ever since.
