WasteNotts Limited (currently operated by Waste Recycling Group, for Nottinghamshire County Council) Operational: May 1992 to date.
The Fiskerton Leachate Treatment Plant is a tank-based SBR system that pre-treats up to 30 m3/d of leachate, and discharges the effluent to a rural sewage treatment works via a 1 km pipeline. The sewage treatment works effluent discharges to a stream which passes the site perimeter.
Leachate strengths have varied from initial concentrations of approximately 100 to 300 mg/l of ammoniacal-N, prior to restoration capping, recently rising to 500 to 650 mg/l now that restoration capping is complete and the rate of rainwater percolation into the site to generate leachate flows has reduced.
Leachate Collection pumps in dedicated sumps are computer-controlled to balance the loading on the plant. The leachate plant is just a part of a phased remediation strategy completed by Aspinwall (now Enviros), which has successfully controlled leachate levels within the site, and ensured protection of the environment.
As part of an extensive leachate pollution (leakage) prevention scheme, designed by Enviros and constructed since installation and commissioning of the leachate treatment plant, it was necessary for Enviros to extend and enhance an existing perimeter leachate containment cut-off wall for this site. This work was also designed, tendered, and supervised by Enviros Aspinwall.
The plant has operated without interruption, in complete compliance with the discharge quality consent, since 1992. The only significant plant refurbishment cost to date has been a complete rebuild of the aerator assembly during 2000.
