BROOKHILL LEACHATE TREATMENT PLANT

North Wales, UK
Client: A& D Waste
Operational: Summer 2001 to date.

This plant "shoe-horned" into the space between the weighbridge and the site boundary, was a Design & Build Project with Hytech-Water acting as Principal Contractor.

The Brookhill Leachate Treatment Plant is a tank-based SBR system that pretreats up to 150 m³/d of leachate and discharges the effluent to sewer.  The plant treats leachate from both Brookhill and Standard Landfill site (approximately 2 miles from Brookhill).  Leachate is tankered from Standard Landfill and is discharged into a holding tank prior to being fed through to the main raw leachate balancing tank.

Leachate strengths vary between 600 - 800 mg/l ammoniacal nitrogen for the Brookhill leachate and 1200 - 1600 mg/l ammoniacal nitrogen for the Standard leachate.  The leachate from each site is blended within the raw leachate balance tank in order to maintain (as far as possible) a consistent raw leachate strength.
