News! Taman Beringin Leachate Treatment Plant, Kuala Lumpur commissioning is in progress.

Site updated:

Our groundwater protection projects range from long running research work contracts for the Environment Agency, to the many groundwater remediation projects we have undertaken at landfill sites.

Research, including monitoring of the unsaturated zone to obtain long term perfomance data on the performance of an attenuate, dilute, and disperse landfill design.

Funding commenced during initial landfill development, with the installation of pressure vacuum lysimeters into the unsaturated zone. Enviros continues to monitor these instruments, and publish technical papers on the preformance of the unsaturated zone in preventing pollution of the underlying groundwater.

Basketstown Landfill, Ireland (Meath CC)

Monitoring, and feasibility on the prevention of pollution of a sacred well.

Advice on remediation and treatment methods to prevent groundwater pollution.

Borth Landfill, Wales, UK (Cerdigion CC)

Interception of leachate and prevention of surface water and groundwater contamination.

A landfill perimeter Cut-Off trench was installed using bentonite matting. This intercepts groundwater before it can cause contamination. Click here for more information.

Foxhall Groundwater Remediation Scheme
(Suffolk CC)

Prevention of landfill groundwater contamination reaching and polluting a drinking water source (river abstraction point).

Monitoring, pollution plume modelling, feasibility studies for remediation, design of scheme, construction supervision, and commissioning of scheme.(See below for IWEM paper for detailed information on this project.)

Sinks Pit, Groundwater Remediation Scheme
(Suffolk CC)

Prevention of landfill groundwater contamination. Similar to Foxhall, although the river concerned was not a drinking water source.

Rather than a membrane cut-off as implemented at Foxhall, borehole interception has been utilised, with a linear wellfield, used to intercept contaminants, prior to sewer discharge of the polluted groundwater collected. Similar involvement to Foxhall.

Duckhill Landfill (WRG)

Remediation of leachate polluted groundwater causing surface water pollution at the spring line downstream from the landfill.

Currently at design and EA agreement stage, this project has already involved, interpretation of monitoring data, pollution modelling, feasibility studies on alternative remediation options, and outline design.
