The Sequencing Batch Reactor Cycle
The term “sequencing batch reactor” refers to reactors which repeat a cycle. In this case we are referring to a cycle which is set up to optimise leachate treatment.
The cycle is in principle:-
- Aerate, mix and feed raw leachate into the tank (or reactor);
- Cease aeration and allow settlement of the biological sludge;
- Draw off from the clean water at the top the flow which entered the tank during the Stage 1 (aeration) stage.
This is the principle, of course the reality in a full size process is a little more complicated.
