The Importance of Process Design

We have built our reputation on our leachate treatment plant process design skills. We take great care in the selection of suitable processes, the site specific process sizing for biological treatment, chemical demands, and detailed integration of all the process elements. This is the foundation upon which the success of all the plant functional requirements rests.

"A leachate treatment plant is no different from any other process plant. Success or failure rests upon the quality of the process design. No matter how well the process design is implemented by the other disciplines, the project will fail if the process design is poor."

Enviros incorporates proven specialist process design experience into leachate treatment plant design. We have found over many years, that landfill leachates contain such a complex cocktail of chemical compounds, and vary so widely, that our specialisation in leachate treatment enables to provide great value for our clients. While we do use many water industry “standard” treatment techniques, these are always implemented in the light of our detailed knowledge of landfill leachates. This has been developed both from our extensive research contracts, and from the unequalled depth of our experience gained from our long term support of our clients in the operation of our many existing plants.

Our process designs do vary substantially from those provided by even the most experienced "non-leachate specialist" designers (eg from the Water Treatment Industry, or with Industrial Effluent Treatment backgrounds), applying modified "text book" designs derived from treatment of other types of effluent.

We believe that our track record demonstrates our leading position in this field. An indication that very many in the waste industry recognise this can be derived from the fact that we are frequently called in both to design new plants, and to modify and re-design existing plants which are failing due to poor process design.

At any time we have projects which are being designed, constructed, and commissioned, that use market leading technologies in a site specific way, to meet a range of effluent quality standards very reliably. Approximately half of these plants discharge to surface watercourses, with the remainder providing pre-treatment prior to public sewer discharge.

Click here to visit our case study pages and view case studies of almost 50 full size operational plants, including our old sites with some in excess of 20 years old, which are still in daily use.

A similar set of studies also exists, with more detailed text, on the Enviros Consulting main website here.
